Password change

Passwords are important for protecting your personal data and privacy, as well as safeguarding our entire computer system. We encourage you to use secure passwords at HNEE.

The minimum password requirements for your HNE login are:

  • At least 12-20 characters long
  • Must include characters from the following categories:
  • Uppercase letters (A to Z)
  • Lowercase letters (a to z)
  • Numbers (0 to 9)
  • Special characters (e.g.: !, $, #, %)
  • The user’s name or login name (abc123/u12345) must not be included
  • We recommend avoiding the use of umlauts (ä/ö/ü).

You can change your password at HNE computers or via Webmail (OWA = Outlook Web Access).

Changing your password at HNE computers:

  1. Log in to the HNE computer.
  2. Press the key combination CTRL + ALT + DELETE and then click on "Change Password…".
  3. Enter your current password once and your new password twice.
  4. Confirm the entry by clicking OK.

Changing your password via Webmail:

1. Log in to Webmail (https://webmail.hnee.de/owa).
2. In the upper right corner, go to the gear menu and select Options.
3. In the left navigation, open GeneralMy Account, and then click on the link "Change your password" in the bottom right of the content area.
4. Enter your current password once and your new password twice.
5. Confirm your entry by clicking the "Save" button (top left).

The new password is valid indefinitely. Do not write the password down in plain text and do not share it. Never enter your password on unknown websites or on sites without encryption (the website should begin with https://). If necessary, use software that stores passwords securely, such as KeePass.

Note: If you have not been at HNE Eberswalde for an extended period (internship or semester abroad) and have forgotten your password, please send us an email from an alternative email account or call us at +49 (0)3334 657 272. In this case, we will send you a new password.

If you have forgotten your password and no longer have access to Webmail, it can only be reset by an ITSZ employee. In this case, please contact support@hnee.de.
