Online Surveys with LimeSurvey

The open-source software LimeSurvey is the online survey tool for your online and (offline) surveys. Whether it's simple questionnaires with a few questions or complex surveys with extensive evaluation rules, conditional logic, and quota management. Data export to Excel, SPSS, R, or Stata is easily possible. User rights can be assigned for collaborative editing of surveys by multiple users.

Services

LimeSurvey is installed on the university's own server at HNEE. Support and assistance are provided for creating and conducting surveys. Surveys and their results are typically available for six months.

Use of the Service/URL

To use LimeSurvey, please apply for access here (a HNEE account is required to use the service).

Data Protection and Security

  • HNEE collects and processes data from service users in order to provide the service. Necessary data for managing access to the service (name, title, email address, ID) are stored. Data from survey participants are stored only to the extent necessary for conducting closed surveys by service users (usually name and email address).

  • In addition, movement data on LimeSurvey (e.g., participation in a survey) is also stored, usually by processing the IP address.

  • For the surveys, an up-to-date imprint and privacy policy must be published. These data are automatically generated by combining predefined template texts with information about the service users who start the online survey.

  • Our system uses so-called cookies, which are stored on the user's computer. The storage of cookies can be undone at any time by changing the internet browser settings.

Legal Framework

  • Due to the operation of the system, data is stored within the university and is therefore protected from evaluation or access by third parties.

  • Access to LimeSurvey is password-protected. The password must not be shared with third parties.

  • Users are responsible for clarifying data protection-related questions in the survey itself. In particular, when collecting personal data, the data protection officer and/or the responsible staff council must be involved.

  • Survey data must be deleted by the creators once no longer needed. If you need the data for an extended period, please export it beforehand. Survey data containing personal and/or sensitive data must be securely stored to prevent unauthorized access.

  • Compliance with copyright law (e.g., for uploading text, image, or audio material).

  • Ensuring the anonymity of participants.
